Senior Lecturer of the Software Engineering Department at Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics and Technical Expert at the NIX Learning and Development Center of NIX, Kostiantyn Onyshchenko, took part in a panel discussion with the Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, Mykola Trofymenko, during his working visit to Kharkiv.
The key topic of the discussion was the future of Ukraine’s post-war economy and whether the higher education system is preparing professionals for this new development model. At the center of the dialogue was the advancement of dual education as an effective tool for close cooperation between universities, business, and the state.
Kostiantyn Onyshchenko emphasized that an effective dual education model requires active involvement of employers in shaping academic programs, strong fundamental training and quality assurance from universities, and transparent cooperation mechanisms created by the state. Such an approach enables students to gain not only a diploma but also relevant professional experience during their studies.
Special attention during the panel discussion was paid to project- and practice-oriented learning. This approach involves engaging students in real-life IT company cases, teamwork on practical projects, and the use of modern development tools and technologies. As a result, students build strong practical skills, develop a portfolio of completed projects, and gain an understanding of real business processes. This significantly increases graduates’ competitiveness in the job market and facilitates their faster integration into the professional environment.
For many years, the Software Engineering Department of Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics has been systematically implementing project-based learning approaches, actively involving IT companies in updating course content and enhancing students’ practical training. This model ensures a combination of solid engineering fundamentals with current industry requirements and maintains a strong connection between education and the real sector of the economy.
It is worth noting that the Educational and Professional Program “Software Engineering” is recommended by the NIX IT team and adapted to the current demands of the IT industry. The program is aligned with labor market needs and предусматриes the active involvement of industry practitioners in the educational process.
As part of the Deputy Minister’s visit, the forum “Dual Education: Results and Prospects for Scaling Student Participation in Regional Development” was also held. The event brought together representatives of regional council, Members of Parliament, as well as representatives of higher education institutions, enterprises, institutions, and organizations of the region. Participants discussed practical and legislative aspects of combining study and employment in one’s field, prospects for strengthening partnerships between universities and leading enterprises, and ways to expand dual education programs considering labor market demands, security conditions, and regional development priorities.
